Noah’s 4th Birthday
The weekend before Noah’s birthday, we are fortunate to celebrate Noah’s 4th birthday with family & friends - because shortly after his birthday, Melbourne goes on lockdown again due to the second wave of Covid. On the menu is his favourite - Hainanese chicken rice. I make the rice & side dishes while ordering the chicken from our local favourite Gai Wong, and the birthday cake is a pandan jelly cake kindly made by a good friend.
On his birthday itself, we skip school and head to the city for lunch at Ichigo, and of course, there’s cake for dessert. Next, a trip to the Werribee Zoo, which is a real treat for Sophie because it’s her first time.
The biggest birthday present arrives in the form of a Cruzee balance bike, all the way from his grandmother in Singapore. He hates it at first - “where are the pedals?!?” and starts to wail. But not before long, he gets the hang of it and he’s zooming around, quicker than I can run. 3 years later, he still very much loves his balance bike so much so that he doesn’t want to upgrade to a bigger bike.
