Hopscotch
With playgrounds closed due to coronavirus restrictions, Noah is introduced to hopscotch during our daily walks around the neighbourhood. Pathways & roads are decorated with chalk by children, some more intricate than others but each with its own unique take.
There are days where we find no hopscotch markings - maybe the rain washed it away & nobody has had a chance to draw a new one. But it doesn’t matter, this doesn’t deter Noah - hopscotch can be any line or markings on the floor - from zebra crossings to basketball courts.
It’s a wonderful thing to see children enjoying themselves so magically at the simplest of things - in this case, mere lines on the ground. It’s equally as sad that we lose this sense of wonder & whimsy as the years pass and we move into adulthood.
As I chalk a maze for Noah on the road outside our house, a lady walks by and exclaims “amazing!” before joining in and hopping along the freshly drawn lines. She finishes the maze with a heel-click jump, much to the delight of Noah & I. Maybe the world would be a better place if we all could remember to let our inner child out once in a while.
