Cake connoisseur
If you don’t know by now, Noah loves cake. He does a happy dance when he eats cake. His favourite masterchef is Poh, because she bakes cakes. He loves her so much that when she got eliminated, he cried. When he grows up, he wants to have a cake shop (we suspect to eat it more than to sell or make it). His love for cake is so evident that his godmother has a nickname for him, cake_boi2017, a tribute to a time back when nicknames and hotmail was all the rage.
We are very blessed that our wonderful friend who is a amazing baker lives down the road. And during lockdown, she would bake cakes and drop us some every so often, which always made Noah’s day.
On this particular occasion, she made a Pandan Kaya layered cake. She is slightly embarrassed how it’s not formed perfectly and maybe it might not taste that good but we have no doubt it will be as delicious as all her previous creations. Noah is excited as ever and as it’s nice weather outside, we sit out in the front garden to have this special treat. He’s bursting with excitement as we cut into the cake and you can see the different layers. “I want this piece!” he says, pointing to the biggest slice. He marvels at the layers of green; sponge and custard stacked on top of each other like pieces of lego. Coincidentally, he is wearing a green striped shirt, somewhat appropriate for this cake treat. As he bites to it, you can hear his approval. He loves it so much that in a mere matter of minutes, it is demolished.
And 10 months later, he requests that same layered green cake for his 4th birthday.
