“Ohhhh my goodness! Jon! These are wildly, magically, incredible! Thank you SO much. What a gift to have these. So many gorgeous moments in here – you’ve really captured us and our general silliness perfectly. THANK YOU!” - Kristen

Rocking up to this family session, I felt nervous. The good kind of nervous. The kind of nervous that you get when you have to hold your baby for the first time, or the butterflies in your stomach when go on a first date, or when you heart races as you are about to give a presentation in front of a room full of people. You know it’s going to be good - or great even, but you are still on edge. This is the wonderful feeling photographing in film gives me time and time again. The anticipation before, the waiting after.

I attended the Film Blood workshop by Sarah Black in April 2024. Being an introvert, I get anxious meeting new people - it feels like the first day of school all over again. But the nerves quickly settle once you meet a friend. And that friend was Kristen. We instantly connected and became fast friends. I’m so honoured that I’ve got to photograph her beautiful family in my most favourite medium, film.

Pizza making turned into dough playing, bed cuddles into acrobatics in bed, followed by a stroll in the nearby park while dad stayed back to make the real pizza dinner. A very real insight into everyday family life. A life worth celebrating.

Shot on Pentax 645, Contax G1, Canon EOS3 with Portra 400 & 800. Scanned by Halide Supply
